Cat Taxidermy Mount Ideas for Your Cabin or Museum
If you’re a North American or African taxidermy enthusiast, you more than likely are interested in adding big cat taxidermy mounts to your collection. From the African lion and leopard, to the cougar, lynx, and bobcat, there are numerous big cat species to choose from.
From life size wall mounts to beautiful pelts or rugs, here are some big cat taxidermy mount ideas that we love.
1. African Leopard Full Body Taxidermy Mount
Panthera pardus
Predominantly nocturnal animals, the African leopard is one of the most distinctive predators in Africa, thanks to its yellow or tawny coat and black rosettes. The leopard is native to 35 different countries across the continent of Africa, its habitat ranging from desert, to grasslands, to tropical forest. Leopards are skilled, nocturnal hunters that prey on small and large antelopes, rodents, birds, and even insects. The outstanding quality taxidermy piece pictured here shows off the cat’s ability to climb.
The African leopard taxidermy mount shown here is near-perfect, with a “Trophy” quality grade. It’s part of our Global Exotic collection and is Cities protected. Explore our leopard taxidermy mounts and reproduction skulls here.
2. Aggressive Mountain Lion Full Body Wall Taxidermy Mount
Puma concolor
The mountain lion, also known as the cougar or puma, is the 2nd largest wild cat native to the Americas (2nd only to the jaguar). Having your mountain lion showcased as a full body mount with jaws open and an aggressive display of teeth will make a stunning addition to your big cat taxidermy collection. We recommend adding custom habitat, such as rocks, brush, a tree limb, or a fallen log to really make the taxidermy piece “come to life.”
The mountain lion taxidermy piece pictured here has a “Superior” quality grade and is a part of our Olympic Big Game Taxidermy collection. Check out all our cougar taxidermy here.
3. Lynx Full Body Wall Taxidermy Mount
Lynx canadensis
There are four types of lynx in the world – the Eurasian, Canada, Iberian, and Red lynx (Bobcat). Pictured here is the Canada lynx sprinting alongside some custom habitat. The four lynx species are exceptionally good hunters, preying on small mammals such as the snowshoe hare. The Canada lynx, since it’s native to Canada and Alaska, has thick fur to insulate it from the winter cold. It also has broad, showshoe-like paws that help it run easily on top of snow.
The lynx taxidermy mount shown here has the “Superior” quality grade and is part of our Olympic Big Game Taxidermy collection. Be sure to check out all our other lynx taxidermy here.
4. African Lion Half Body Mount
Panthera leo
The African lion is the world’s second largest big cat (behind the tiger), with the males having manes and being larger than the females. Lions live in family groups called prides and prey mostly on large ungulates. The lion is one of the world’s most widely recognized mammals in human culture, having been depicted in sculptures, paintings, and national flags throughout history, and in contemporary films and books. As such, they are a must-have for the African taxidermy enthusiast or any African museum exhibition.
Shown here is a half body mount that’s crafted with amazing structural detail, earning an “Excellent” quality grade. Browse our lion taxidermy here, which includes life size mounts, half body mounts, and skulls.
5. Bobcat Attacking 3 Grey Partridges Taxidermy Mount
Lynx rufus
The smallest member of the genus Lynx is called the bobcat, or the Red lynx. It is a skilled hunter, preying on small ungulates, rabbits, hares, squirrels, mice, birds, and insects. Here, this taxidermy piece shows off the bobcat’s hunting skills proudly: this cat has ambushed three grey partridges!
