Bear Skin Rug FAQs

How long does it take to get a bear rug made?

How long your Grizzly or Black bear skin rug takes to get made will depend on your taxidermy shop’s availability. Most taxidermy services will last anywhere between 6-8 months to make sure all facets of the preservation have been done correctly. For an accurate schedule and time estimate, please contact our experts.

How to maintain a bear skin rug?

A genuine bear rug with real fur and an open mouth will require special care to preserve all the features of the animal. You’ll want to use a styling hair pick to remove any particles such as cobwebs or dust bunnies. Do this several times to ensure all particles have been removed. Next, you should dissolve a mild soap (in powder/chip form) in warm water and dip a sponge in. Wring out the sponge (should be damp, not dripping), and follow the grain of the bear’s fur with the damp sponge. When finished, allow the bear hide to dry overnight.

How long do bear skin rugs last?

With superb taxidermy services and regular maintenance as directed by your taxidermist, your bear skin should last you many years, (even decades!) after the hunt. With proper care, our bear skin rugs are made to last a lifetime. More information here about how to take care of fur pelts.

How much does it cost to tan a bear hide?

The cost of tanning your bear hide will depend on several factors. These include 1.) the size of the hide, 2.) the tanning method used, and 3.) the taxidermist/tanner’s rates. Additionally, some tanners might charge extra for bear hides that require additional cleaning or repair. For further questions on bear hide tanning cost, please contact our experts.

Is it legal to have a bear rug?

Whether it’s legal to own bear rug comes down to which state you reside in. Some states are okay to sell all types of bear products, while others cannot sell other types. All prohibited states include: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.
