The mongoose is a small carnivorous mammal characterized by a weasel-like body, pointed snout, small ears, and a long furry tail. The animal dwells in Africa, Europe, and Asia, belonging to the subfamilies Herpestinae and Mungotinae. There are 34 known species of mongoose living in the world today – these include the Banded Mongoose, Yellow Mongoose, Long-Nosed Mongoose, Marsh Mongoose, Dwarf Mongoose, Meller’s Mongoose, Javan Mongoose, Small Indian Mongoose, Black-Footed Mongoose, Egyptian Mongoose, and the Meerkat, just to name a few.
The mongoose preys on and eats a wide variety of reptiles, birds, insects, invertebrates, and fruits. They are excellent, agile hunters and are known for their skill in successfully attacking and killing snakes. While they are sometimes bitten, the mongoose has a glycoprotein that makes them immune to the venom of a snake bite.
The mongoose may be a small animal, but it is fierce and a great addition for your African, Asian, or exotic taxidermy collection. Its small size makes it great as a life-size mount to display on a table, office desk, TV cabinet, or bookshelf. A custom habitat is perfect for the mongoose – we recommend having your mongoose sitting or standing among brush, hunting prey, or peering out of a burrow.

With years of experience working with small, medium, and large predator and prey animals, you can trust our team to handle your taxidermy mount project with care. We take pride in maintaining the fur color, facial details, and anatomical structure of the animal so that it looks as life-like as possible. At All-Taxidermy, we are trained by world-class taxidermists and are members of the WTA (Wisconsin Taxidermists Association) and SCI (Safari Club International). Our taxidermy store is based in Wrightstown, WI, but we serve customers nationwide.
