About the North American & Eurasian Moose

North America’s largest deer, the moose (Alces alces) is one of the most impressive mammals to feature in your taxidermy collection. Known as the Elk in Eurasia, this large member of the deer family is known for its huge set of palmate antlers, which can reach a span of 6 feet from end to end. The moose is a huge land mammal, with the adults ranging in size from 800 pounds (small females) to 1,600 pounds (large adult males) and usually stand around 6 feet tall. The weight of the largest moose ever recorded was 1,808 pounds and stood 7.6 feet tall.

The North American/Eurasian moose is an herbivore, feeding on aquatic plants, fresh shoots from willow and birch trees, and fruit. Male moose are called bulls, females are called cows, and their young are known as calves. The animal’s range spans from Alaska across all of Canada and down into New England, Washington state, Montana, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, North Dakota, north Minnesota, and Michigan’s upper peninsula.

Moose Life-Size Mounts

Life-size full body moose mounts are incredible specimens which show off the sheer size and height of the animal. Standing next to most North American mammals in your collection, a moose mount is going to be one of the largest, with the exception of several species of bear, elk, and bison. A full body bull moose is the pride of any taxidermy collector or moose hunting enthusiast!

However, the price of a moose mount of this size and time to prepare and customize it will be quite the investment. Our moose life-size mounts are museum-ready for offices, cabins, nature education centers, museum exhibitions, etc.!

Moose Shoulder Mounts/Moose Heads

Some of our most beautiful moose taxidermy are specifically the moose shoulder mounts/moose head mounts. For some hunting and taxidermy enthusiasts, the moose head may be a more practical choice because they don’t take up as much room as a life-size mount would. Also, they are not quite as expensive as a full life-size mount, however, you can still appreciate the grandeur of the bull’s huge antlers.

A huge bull moose head from Alaska or Canada is a great choice for your Alaskan/North American mammal collection! Most of our shoulder mounts feature our moose in either Superior or Trophy condition. Every hunting enthusiast wants a moose shoulder mount in their collection! They are great displayed alongside a Whitetail or Mule deer buck, North American Elk, Caribou, Grizzly bear, Black bear, etc. Contact us for a taxidermy service for your moose shoulder mounts/moose head mounts, or take a look at our pricing here!

Moose Antler Plaques

For the hunter or taxidermy enthusiast who prefers to focus on the beauty of the animal’s antlers, a moose antler plaque is the perfect solution. It’s also a great choice for saving space on your wall. Moose antler plaques are excellent for any office, cabin, or living room. Besides the Elk, there really isn’t a more impressive set of antlers than those of the North American moose. You can also opt to have us preserve just one or both of the antlers – the perfect display for a bookshelf or office desk! (more on that below).

What makes moose antlers stand out from many other members of the deer family is that their antlers are a type of “palmate” antler – this means they have the formation of a wide, flat, open hand. Thanks to their immense size and unique, palmate appearance, moose antlers are a perfect choice for hunting and taxidermy enthusiasts whenever you’re looking for a great conversation starter!

Moose Antlers

On our website, we also have single moose shed antlers. These are perfect for setting on your desk and are great for any outdoor or taxidermy enthusiast. These palmate antlers are perfect for complementing a bookshelf, dining room table, TV set, or any shelf in your home or cabin. We also have moose antler lamps, which make the perfect gift for anyone who loves to hunt or owns a cabin!

At All-Taxidermy, we do list the dimensions, quality grade, and the number of points of the taxidermy moose antler display to get an idea of size and quality. Most of our bull moose antlers are harvested in Alaska or Canada.

Moose Taxidermy Mounts FAQs

Below are just some of the most frequently asked questions about the North American moose and what to expect from the taxidermy process. All other questions can be directed to our team at (888) 983-3886.

How much does a taxidermied moose cost?

The cost for your taxidermied moose will depend on which type of mount you’re opting for. For example, in the case of a moose head/moose shoulder mount, you can expect it to cost you around $2,500. By contrast, a European mount or skull for either a moose or an elk is around $400. A life size mount will be around $10,000. For an exact quote for your project, please give our team a call, or check out price list page for the most up-to-date pricing for your moose taxidermy.

How heavy is a moose head taxidermy?

Factoring in the antlers, a head from a bull moose can range from 50-100+ pounds. Smaller moose heads can weigh as little as around 50 pounds, but the largest bull moose heads can be upwards of 90-125 pounds or more. How heavy the moose head is will be listed in the product description for that item. Contact us for a specific quote for your moose head taxidermy.

How do you hang a moose shoulder mount?

Have a moose shoulder mount you’ve recently purchased? To ensure it is safely displayed on your wall, you will need to use a heavy-duty lag screw and center it on a wall stud to keep it firmly in place. When in doubt, check with your taxidermist or a community of experienced moose taxidermy owners for what to do to properly support your moose shoulder mount/moose head when displaying it on the wall.
