The duck is a waterfowl species characterized by its vibrant plumage, graceful form, distinctive “quack” and diverse habitats spanning wetlands, marshes, and waterways across the globe. If you’re a beginner hunter just getting started with the sport, you may want to check out our article linked here on waterfowl taxidermy tips to help you get started. Let’s take a look at some of the species we currently have available in our store:
Duck Species Overview
Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos)
The Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) is North America’s most recognizable and widely distributed duck species. Males display stunning iridescent green heads, white neck rings, and chestnut breasts, while the females have a beautiful mottled brown plumage to help them camouflage in their surroundings.
The Mallard is native to temperate and subtropical regions across North America, Europe, and Asia. They are of course prized by hunters for both their sporting challenge and striking appearance. The Mallard is the perfect centerpiece for any taxidermy waterfowl collection! Have our taxidermists create a custom habitat, add two or more ducks, or make the bird fly for a stunning trophy piece that you’ll be proud to display on your cabin wall.
Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata)
Easily one of the world’s most beautiful waterfowl is the Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata). The male duck’s elaborate plumage features ornate orange “sails,” intricate white and green facial patterns, and a beautiful crest that makes this species instantly recognizable. Native to East Asia, including China, Japan, and Russia, these ducks are a perfect exotic species to add next to other duck game.
At All-Taxidermy, our skilled taxidermists specialize in capturing the Mandarin Duck’s beautiful coloration and unique feathers. Please browse all our Mandarin Duck taxidermy wall mounts and table life-size mounts above.
New Zealand Paradise Duck (Tadorna variegata)
The Paradise Duck, also called the Paradise Shelduck (Tadorna variegata), is New Zealand’s most distinctive waterfowl species. A standout feature of this duck species is the coloration differences between the male and female. The male Paradise Duck features a dark head and body contrasted by white wing patches, while the female instead has a rich chestnut-colored head with a lighter colored body.
Native to the country of New Zealand, the Paradise Duck lives in grasslands, coastal areas, and high country regions throughout both the North and South Islands. At All-Taxidermy, our Paradise Duck mounts showcase the unique characteristics that make this species a prized addition to any world waterfowl collection!
Other Popular Duck Game Species
We currently have Mallard, Mandarin, and New Zealand Paradise Duck species available in our store, however, there are many other duck species that we also work with. These include the elegant Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) with its distinctive crested head and intricate markings, which, similar to the Mandarin Duck, is a favorite among duck taxidermy collecting enthusiasts thanks to its brilliantly colored markings.
Other species we work with include the American Black Duck (Anas rubripes), which offers classic waterfowl appeal with its dark, handsome plumage and bright orange legs. Shoveler species, including the Northern Shoveler (Spatula clypeata) with its spatulate bill and striking breeding colors, make impressive display pieces on your wall also. Teal species are equally popular, with both Green-winged Teal (Anas carolinensis) and Blue-winged Teal (Spatula discors) highly prized for their vibrant wing patches.
Another species we recommend looking into is the Northern Pintail (Anas acuta), an elegant duck species with distinctive tail feathers. Each of these species have unique mounting challenges and opportunities that our experienced taxidermists handle with expertise and attention to detail. Add a custom habitat to make your duck stand near the water, or vegetation next to a duck with wings spread open in mid-flight!
