Collecting Small Mammal Taxidermy
Today we’ll explore North America’s small and medium mammals.
Many taxidermy collectors who hunt will bring in deer, bear, elk, and other large animals to be taxidermied, so why collect small mammal taxidermy?
Small mammals pair perfectly with big game in your taxidermy collection. They can be used for display in sporting shops and stores, displayed in a personal office or cabin collection, or even serve an educational purpose in nature centers, zoological exhibitions, schools, and museums.
Taxidermy pieces of small mammal specimens can complement bigger game based on region, (for example, Plains, Midwest, Desert, Boreal, and Arctic). An example of this would be a large game trophy like an American Bison, with a Jack Rabbit or Prairie Dog displayed nearby in a Plains collection.
We highly recommend custom habitat to highlight a particular feature of the animal such as a raccoon climbing a tree, a fox pursuing its prey, or a beaver gnawing on tree bark. This helps to convey the animal’s nature and make it stand out from the collection!
In this article, we’ll cover some of our top picks for small mammal taxidermy from North America:

1. Bobcat (Lynx Rufus)
If you’re a big cat or wild cat enthusiast, you can’t miss this magnificent predator!
