7. Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta)

8. Wildebeest (Connochaetes species)
Our Wildebeest taxidermy features both Black and Blue wildebeest subspecies. These antelopes are known for their distinctive bearded faces and curved horns. Blue wildebeest are more common and widespread, while Black wildebeest are smaller with characterized white tails and are found primarily in southern Africa.

9. Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros)
The Greater Kudu has possibly the most iconic horns of all of Africa’s antelope species. In fact, the tall, spiraled horns have long been used as a horn to blow since ancient times.
The male Kudu’s spiral horns can reach a length of 6 feet or longer. Both males and females have distinctive white stripes across their greyish-tawny coats.
This antelope has an incredible jumping ability and prefers dense woodland. If you’re considering expanding your African taxidermy collection, you really can’t go wrong with the Greater Kudu.

10. Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus)
Our Warthog taxidermy captures these charismatic wild pigs known for their distinctive facial “warts” and impressive tusks.

17. Eland (Taurotragus oryx)
The Eland is Africa’s largest antelope species, weighing up to 2,000 pounds. Thanks to their size, they will look stunning as a wall pedestal or even as a life-size mount in your African taxidermy collection.
Both males and females have a pair of characteristic, spiraled horns. The male Eland will develop a distinctive dewlap and darker coloration as they age.

18. Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius)
Our Hippopotamus taxidermy captures one of Africa’s most dangerous animals. These semi-aquatic giants spend most of their day submerged in water to protect their sensitive skin, emerging at night to graze on grass.

19. Gemsbok (Oryx gazella)
The Gemsbok, or Oryx, are desert-dwelling antelopes with long, straight horns and distinctive black and white facial markings.
These hardy animals are adapted to arid environments and can survive without water for extended periods, obtaining moisture from the plants they eat. Both sexes in our African taxidermy collection will have the characteristic have long, rapier-like horns.

20. Black-Backed Jackal (Canis mesomelas)
Our Black-Backed Jackal taxidermy features these adaptable canids known for their distinctive black saddle marking and opportunistic hunting behavior.
These intelligent predators are both hunters and scavengers, often working in pairs and known for their cunning ability to steal kills from larger predators. Black-backed jackals have a distinctive high-pitched call.

21. Caracal (Caracal caracal)
The Caracal, or African lynx, is best known for its prominent black-tufted ears, reddish coat, and excellent hunting skills.
These feline hunters can leap up to 12 feet high to catch birds in flight!
If you’re looking for other big cats to display in your African taxidermy collection beyond the Lion and Leopard, the Caracal is a unique choice.

22. African Blesbok (Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi)
The African Blesbok has a rich brown coat with white markings and unique facial blazes. These medium-sized antelopes live in the South Africa region. Blesbok prefer open grasslands and are closely related to the bontebok, distinguished by their facial markings and body coloration.

23. Nubian Ibex (Capra nubiana)
The Nubian Ibex is native to the mountainous regions of northeastern Africa and is perfect for collecting and displaying alongside other African desert animals like the Gemsbok and Fennec Fox.
Nubian Ibex taxidermy are rewarding to collect since they add the appeal of stunning curved horns and visually interesting ways to display them as wall mounts climbing on rocks.
The Nubian Ibex has a tan or light brown coat, and the males have a distinctive beard.

24. Nyala (Tragelaphus angasii)
Our Nyala taxidermy showcases this beautiful spiral-horned antelope. The male Nyala sports a dark grayish coat with white stripes and impressive spiral horns, while females have a bright reddish-brown coat with prominent white stripes and no horns.

25. African Civet (Civettictis civetta)
This isn’t probably the first animal that comes to mind when you think of collecting African taxidermy, however the African Civet is a unique and unexpected addition that looks great mounted on a wall with custom habitat!
The civet’s fur is characterized by distinctive black and white markings and has a cat-like appearance, however they are not members of the cat family, but rather belong to their own family along with more than a dozen subspecies of Asian civet. The civet has a distinctive musky scent and eats a diverse diet including fruits, insects, and small animals.

26. Zebra (Equus species)
We’ll finish our article with one of Africa’s most recognize mammals – the Zebra.
Pictured here is what most people think of when they think of a Zebra – the Plains Zebra, however you may also find the Mountain and Grevy’s zebra subspecies on our website. These white and black striped wild horses each have a unique stripe pattern that’s very much like a fingerprint.
Zebras are characterized by their loud calls, and the important role they play as prey species in African ecosystems.
